Faces of Tourism Story

Kent's Harbor and Marina and The Sagamore Resort (Liberty)

When Brookville Lake’s dam first closed and the lake began filling in 1974, my wife and I started our business. Twenty hours short of completing my degree at IU we moved to Brookville, acquired property and set up operations.

As a destination boat dealership we focused on one primary goal: providing a level of customer service to afford families the best use of their valuable boating time.

As visitation grew, it became apparent that customers wanted greater opportunities to enjoy the lake. Working with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, in 1988 we entered into a long-term ground lease agreement which has allowed our company to create a full-service marina and golf resort. Resort operations include boat dockage, overnight lodging and meeting space, waterfront restaurant, swimming pool and an 18-hole championship golf course.

In the case of our company, the greater share of our clientele continues to originate from outside of the state. It is this visitation that allows our business to create and grow local full-time jobs and contribute to our local economy.
